Web based program of the PHENOMENON BASED LEARNING

The webinar format: online interactive course

February 7th - March 22nd 2018

In this study program consisting of a series of interactive webinars you will experience a small scale process of phenomenon based learning, with a quick dive into the background philosophy of its origin, then moving to cases of phenomenon based studying in school and teacher education and analyzing it’s pedagogical and psychological preconditions and effects on students’ learning. In the end we will plan a pedagogical application for the need of your context.

The program will consist of seven x 2,5 hour facilitated sessions + three x 1,5 hours online group working added with some individual reading and writing. The participation requires active attending in the sessions as well as small scale individual and group studying.

Applying Finnish learnings - consultative webinar workshops

In this series of webinar workshops we will reflect the learnings of the Finnish school system from the point of view of your own educational and societal context. We will also have a look on the psychological factors hindering or enabling a change in an organization or other system.

The program will consist of two x 2,5 hour facilitated sessions + two 1,5 hours online group working added with short individual reading and writing. In addition 1-3 hours of personal or case-based consultation is included. The participation requires active attending in the sessions and committing to tasks given.

All the webinars are facilitated by Suvi Krista Westling, an educational psychologist and expert in the field with both grass root teaching experience from school and teacher education as well as research from these environments. 



Suvi Westling's professional bio
Suvi Krista Westling is an educational expert, who has a broad and holistic view of education and a deep understanding of human mind and learning. She has graduated from and later taught new students in an innovative program of educational psychology at the University of Helsinki. Her teaching has included lecturing, supervising pre-service-teachers' practice, and facilitating group processes and process-oriented group studies. In her research she studies the quality of regulation of students’ learning and activity both, at school and at teacher education. She has worked as an expert in educational program design at an academic level as well as in the world of international organizations. 

Suvi has also gained grass-roots experience of working with children and teenagers while working as a classroom teacher, youth worker and camp supervisor in various places at earlier phases of her life. She has developed an international mindset and understanding of different cultures by participating and working in different international communities and networks, living and studying in Latin America (Chile), travelling and having friends around the world.

  • Cancellation received between one month and one week prior to the webinar - A cancellation fee equal to 50 % will be charged.
